The UKSF selection process has a pass rate of just 7%, and most candidates fail due to physical limitations or injuries resulting from inadequate training. At Spectre Performance, we have periodised our programme to align with all BACs and Trident Pathway or equivalent courses, ensuring optimal peak performance for the start of selection, so no matter what course or timeframe you’re on, this programme remains specific to your personal situation throughout.

The structure of our programme is user-friendly and accessible via our mobile app eliminating the need for you to think about your daily training routine. This allows you to focus entirely on your training without the risk of overtraining or burnout. Our Programme

The duration of this training programme is a 25 week macro cycle that has been broken down into 3 main mesocycles. This programme has been specifically designed to build upon the key elements and demands of UK Selection. Through this 25 week programme, you can expect to improve on strength, aerobic endurance/capacity, lactate threshold, strength endurance and hills specific training, all of which use the most researched and successful methods of training. It additionally focuses on injury prevention and recovery to ensure the greater physiological demands of preparing for selection can be achieved. The overall aim is to create resilience, robust and injury free individuals that are fully prepared for the UK selection process, both physically and mentally.

What To Expect Each Week:

Each session will begin with a specific warm up phase lasting approximately 15 minutes. The focus of the warm up is to prepare the mind and body for the demands of training. It will consist of an activation phase, mobilisation and potentiation to ensure adequate preparation.

The 1%ers:

These are key to injury prevention and strengthening the isolated elements that can be overlooked. They will consist of areas which have been highlighted as a weakness during the screening process i.e. core stability, plyometrics, balance and proprioception. These are all key components of the bigger picture, allowing the body to function more efficiently during the demands of training.

Multiple Strength Sessions:

A solid strength base will allow for a more efficient transition to areas such as strength endurance and hills specific work. Maintaining a good strength foundation will reduce the risk of injuries when using multiple planes of movement i.e. carrying heavy loads over rough terrain, running etc.

Aerobic and Lactate Threshold Sessions:

Improvement in these two areas will allow us to be fully prepared for the loaded marches that you will face throughout your journey to becoming an elite soldier.

Strength Endurance Sessions:

These will help you become much more efficient and remain strong whilst under fatigue which is a key element if you want to be successful and last the duration of the course.

Mobility and 1%ers:

These are vital and must be executed efficiently and consistently as this will be the difference in how well your body will be prepared and be able to sustain itself throughout the process to ensure you get to the finish line.

    The initial screening and background information sets you up for success and the app is easy to use and track.

    One-to-one consulting with the instructors allowed me to seek advice and tailor workouts to my weaknesses and bounce back from twists and niggles rapidly.

    I’m the fittest and most robust I’ve ever been and getting on the Wattbike or out on the hill is now a treat instead of a chore.

    Not having a clue on how to train for the obvious, I was in a bit of a situation when I come to what to do. A mate mentioned that there’s a new UKSF programme and I decided to try it out from hearing the experience about the coaches.

    The programme is split into various training blocks which makes it really easy to focus on how to train and what to do. The layout of it is simple but effective and has all the information and more to explain what to do / tips.

    One of the biggest things I think helped with the programme is the 1%s involved in it which will help prevent any of the little injuries that can stem from being on the hill.

    This programme has gone me through test week finding myself getting fitter throughout and not peeking prior to it and as a result passing the hills phase.

    Highly recommend, contact to the coaches was always available even if it’s the simplest of things. Quality!
